Inspector Taoma’s investigation into suspicious gold-smuggling activity leads her towards a criminal network embedded in law enforcement, politics and influential business circles. As records disappear and trusted institutions become unreliable, she realises that the danger may be coming from within the system she serves. Unknown to Taoma, Mofi—known as Murphy in childhood—recognises her from their shared past. Years earlier, a devastating fire separated them: Taoma believed the boy she once loved had died, while Mofi survived the tragedy that also took his father. Their reunion is shaped by unequal knowledge, unresolved grief and secrets. When an attack leaves Taoma presumed dead, Mofi’s protection of her becomes inseparable from the investigation and from his own complicated history with the network. The story follows their struggle for justice, survival and trust, asking whether love can endure when the truth exposes the wounds of the past.
